Welcome on my website! I play alto, soprano, tenor, baritone saxophones and EWI.
I compose and arrange what people - I think - call 'jazz music'. I like form, rhythm, harmony & melody, and keep on developing my ways to handle them. I like to compose music that is discovering 'new territory' whithout getting out of touch with the audience. I like to think of compositions as pleasant surprises that can reveal unexpected views without shocking my public.
I know there are other views on this subject; there should be. But it's not a philosophy that comes before I start acting, but rather a description looking in the rear-view mirror of what I did until now an will probably be doing in the future.
This site is meant to get you acquainted with my musical projects: Oene van Geel/Tom Van Dyck throwing frisbee's, Saxkartel with their Chromatic Gardener, Duo Verderame/Van Dyck, t-unit5, Tom Van Dyck/Pierre Anckaert duo & 4-tet with Union Match, t-unit4, my duo with Ewout Pierreux, t-unit7, and who knows what more in the future.
Watch video's, listen to mp3's, read what press has written about my cd's (mostly in dutch, some in french). If you like what you hear, and want to support me, buy a cd in my cd-shop.
There's also a spot with stuff (exercises, transcriptions) I put there for my students. I call it 4 musicians only. Have a peek, grab what you like and let me know if it's been useful to you ... If any of my compositions appeal to you, write me a mail and I might send you some music you'd like to see on paper.
